Staycations at the Merton: "stress-free family fun"

Staycations at the Merton: "stress-free family fun"

22 June 2017

In last weekend's edition of the Jersey Evening Post, deputy editor Carl Walker reviewed his family's recent 'staycation' at the Merton Hotel.

Holidays at home

Carl highlights the stresses of travelling with young children - "enough to put you off in the first place," he writes!

"With careful planning", he observes, "a holiday in Jersey can offer you all the trappings and trimmings of a trip away, but without the need to travel very far."

"After a comfortable journey in our familiar car ... we arrived at our destination within about six minutes of leaving our front door. But once walking up the main steps into the hotel, all that familiarity of Jersey disappeared, as we entered a world that we hadn't realised was right on our doorstep."

Full of fun and great food

With the huge range of activities and leisure facilities for both kids and parents, we were delighted to welcome Carl and his family to the Merton.

After checking in to a "generous family room", the Walker family experienced the thrills of the Aquadome and FlowRider, discovered the entertainment on offer for our young guests at Kids club and XST teenagers' club and, after burning off endless amounts energy during the day, found our six restaurants to be a great section to cater for "all tastes, as well as budgets."

A real highlight was the choice for kids. For feeding a family, the buffet-style dining offers teh best of both worlds; informal, casual and relaxed dining. And having plenty of different option to choose from means youngsters aren't restricted to the child options on the back page of the menu. Plus, it means the desert options are endless - a real incentive for the little ones to finish their main courses."

Keeping the kids entertained

"If your trip is all about keeping the kids entertained and occupied, then there are very few places that can compete with the Merton in the Channel Islands.

"It offers lots of fun, activities and entertainment for tots, kids, tweens and teens."

Summer holidays just around the corner

It was great to welcome Carl & his family, and we were delighted they enjoyed their weekend. His advice?

"If you are in need of a break from Jersey, but the thought of travelling with a large familyis too much, then compare the costs of going away with staying at the Merton, and see for yourself how much stress-free family fun you can enjoy."
