The ultimate Greenhills short break itinerary

13 Jul 2020

Greenhills is a little gem hidden away in the heart of Jersey's beautiful countryside, and makes the perfect base for a stress-free long weekend away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It’s rural location makes it ideal for those looking to get some peace and quiet and explore the leafy green lanes or wild coastlines of the north-west of the island. And, of course, Greenhills offers the perfect venue for fine dining and indulging in the taste of Jersey’s unique flavours. Once you’ve been welcomed into the hotel by our dedicated and friendly team, and taken the time to appreciate your luxuriously comfortable room, it’s time to explore! Here are our top things to include on your itinerary for the perfect Greenhills getaway.

Take a leisurely stroll

Nestled in a quiet corner of St Peter, right on the border with St Lawrence, Greenhills is an ideal base from which to begin and end your walks. A leisurely stroll east will take you to the picturesque and ancient St Lawrence Church and its surrounding village, from where you can turn north to reach Hamptonne, a fine example of the way Jersey's country life used to be.

The beauty of walking in a small island is that you can easily choose to make up your own route, or you can set off on one of the many planned walks that you'll find on the Visit Jersey website. A fantastic choice for discovering the lanes around Greenhills is the Heart of St Lawrence walk, a five to six mile journey that takes you from the island's south coast right into the green heart of Jersey.

Afternoon Tea by the pool

Our exquisite Afternoon Tea has been lovingly created with a selection of sandwiches, scrumptious scones, and delightful bite-sized desserts. Fresh air and even fresher ingredients make for a unique culinary experience, and you can end your afternoon of indulgence with a dip in our outdoor pool.

Cycle through the valley

The island's interweaving lanes provide picturesque escapism for cyclists, with many designated biking routes offering stunning vantage points to take in beautiful seascapes, woodlands and rolling fields. A newly built cycle and pedestrian path now connects St Peter to other nearby parishes with ease.

Join onto the cycle path right next to the Greenhills in St Peter’s Valley, where you will discover Jersey's milling history with the Tesson Mill and Le Moulin de Quetivel situated along the path. Both of the mills are looked after by the National Trust for Jersey, with the latter being the only working mill left in the island. As you continue further into the valley, the more beautiful and tranquil the ride becomes. A guiding stream leads you from the open meadow towards the woodland canopy, accompanied by a soundtrack of native wildlife cheeping and squawking all around.

Discover Jersey’s best pubs

Although we have our very own cosy lounge and bar here at Greenhills, there are a wealth of unique and historical pubs within easy reach of our hotel which are definitely worth venturing to.

Le Moulin de Lecq is an ancient watermill turned country pub that serves a fantastic range of real ales and ciders, as well as hearty selection of pub food. The original building and wooden watermill date back more than 600 years, and the entire premises is now recognised as one of Jersey's historic landmarks. The pub is located opposite Greve de Lecq beach in the parish of St Ouen, roughly a 15 minute drive from Greenhills.

Or why not make your way to St Mary’s Country Inn? It's picture perfect in every way, and only a five minute drive north along St Peter's Valley from Greenhills. You could even take a bracing stroll there. The pub features a separate lounge and restaurant. In the lounge locals gather around the pool table and on the comfy seating to enjoy a wide selection of real ales and house wines.

Dine in style

Our menu, designed by Head Chef, Lukasz Pietrasz, uses local produce wherever possible to create a sumptuous selection of seasonal food. Served in our spacious and beautifully appointed AA Rosette restaurant by friendly and attentive staff, you'll enjoy a meal to remember. When dinner's over, you can relax in the friendly bar and lounge with one our famously more-ish cocktails.

Breakfast in bed

If you just can’t bring yourself to leave your charming and comfortable room, why not treat yourself to a perfectly cooked breakfast, delivered straight to your bedroom door. You’re here to relax after all! You can view all our menus, including our breakfast menu online
