Wine tasting at La Mare Estate

30 Jun 2017

Nestled in the heart of St Mary, La Mare wine estate provides a great day out and an insight into a fascinating local producer.

From being the first commercial vineyard on the island, the wine estate has, over the past forty-five years, expanded to develop an extensive range of local produce from sparkling wines to condiments such as Jersey Black Butter.

With our passion for locally made food and drink, we naturally include quite a few items on the Greenhills' drinks menu from the estate, including Branchage Cider, Jersey Royal Gin and Royal Vodka.

A tour and a tipple

Throughout the day La Mare hosts several guided tours around their vineyard and orchards, followed by a behind the scenes look at the cognac-style distillery and production kitchen. Along the way, one of the estate's expert guides will be close at hand to explain the methods behind their wine, liqueur and brandy production, all of which take place on the 20 acre working estate.

Rounding the tour off, guests are invited to a guided taster session including some of La Mare's wines, Jersey Black Butter, fudge and luxury chocolate.

For more eager chocolate lovers, the estate now hosts a special 'Bean to Bar' tasting session with their very own chocolatier. These sessions are a must for chocaholics: you'll learn all about the production of fine chocolate, from the cultivation of cocoa right through to processing - and, of course, you'll try first hand the delicious results!

It's better by bus!

During the Summer months, a trip to La Mare is made a little easier with the reintroduction of the number 28 bus from Liberation station. En route the number 28 stops by the Greenhills - which is perfect for a spot of lunch beforehand, or to rest, relax and indulge in dinner on the way back home.

So what are you waiting for? Hop on the number 28 bus and head out for a day of double indulgence!
