What's happening in St Helier for Christmas 2019

07 Nov 2019

During the festive period St Helier transforms into a winter wonderland. The streets sparkle under twinkling Christmas lights, and festive markets fill up the public spaces.

There's so much going on within walking distance of the Pomme - Christmas is a truly magical time to visit.

Here are five of our team's favourite things to do during the festive period in St Helier.

Watch the Christmas illumination

Thursday 21st November | 18:00 - 19:30

It's quite a sight watching hundreds of thousands of Christmas lights illuminate St Helier's main streets and squares. Couple this with a Santa Parade featuring the Jersey Pipe Band, Le Petit Train and a host of festive characters, and you'll be immersed in the full St Helier illumination experience!

The parade begins at Millenium Town Park, then travels through the town centre. Santa stops to switch on the lights at various St Helier hotspots, eventually finishing right outside The Pomme's front door at Weighbridge Place, around 19:00.

If you're looking for a bite to eat post-parade, you'll only need to pop upstairs to our Harbour Room restaurant where, to keep the magic going, we're offering a 3 course buffet dinner for £20 per adult, £10 for kiddies ages 10-16 and under 10's eat for free. Book your table by calling us on 01534 880110.

Late night shopping

Every Thursday from 21st November until 19th December \ 17:00 - 22:00

Late night shopping is a sure fire way to get yourself in the Christmas spirit. Once the lights are switched on, St Helier's retailers open their doors until 10pm every Thursday evening until the big day.

It's the perfect opportunity to grab a glass of mulled wine from The Café Bar and head into St Helier to knock some items off your gift list.

During late night shopping evenings, ad-hoc stalls, food vans and street performers provide the perfect festive backdrop for your gift buying.

Festive markets

In the lead up to Christmas, a number of festive markets pop up in the public spaces just a short stroll from our hotel. Two of our favourites are The Norman Market and The Simply Christmas Market.

The Norman Market
13th December - 16th December

The Norman Market showcases the very best of artisanal goods from the north of France, right outside our front door. This is your chance to enjoy the atmosphere of a traditional French festive market, and find something unique to take home for a loved one.

Simply Christmas Market
5th December - 8th December & 12th December - 15 December

Genuine Jersey presents a festive market that features over 40 of Jersey's finest artisans. The sprawling market occupies the whole of the St Helier's Royal Square, and is the perfect place to purchase beautiful gifts and tasty treats directly from the people who made them.

The Christmas Battle of Flowers Parade

8th December | 16:45 - 22:00

The festive edition of Jersey's most famous parade is a delightful Christmas spectacle. The festive floats, draped in lights and sparkling decorations, parade through St Helier's streets, spreading Christmas cheer to the  spectators lining the pavements.

Pop along to the panto

20th December - 4th January | Multiple performances per day

If all these ideas haven't woken the Christmas spirit inside you, then you'll have to head along to the annual Christmas panto at the Jersey Opera House for a big serving of festive cheer!

This year the Jersey Green Room Club, in their 110th year, present the most beloved of all pantomimes: Cinderella.

The Jersey Opera House is just a 10 minute stroll from the Pomme and tickets are available online here.
