Look Behind the Scenes of Jersey's Greatest Export

12 Apr 2017

The Jersey Royal potato is arguably the island's most famous export product, yet very few of us know what goes into the process of shipping and marketing this most exquisite of the island's culinary delights.

That will all change this Easter Monday, as the Jersey Royal Company is throwing open its doors and giving 16 lucky people the chance to peek behind the scenes of Jersey's potato industry by taking part in the Jersey Royal Company's Packhouse Tour.

The tour starts at 10:00 am, when you'll be collected by coach from the Weighbridge, adjacent to the Pomme d'Or Hotel, and transported to the Royal Jersey Company. You could always pop in to the Pomme for breakfast first!

Once at the packhouse, you will learn about the calendar year through the eyes of potato farmers and take part in a guided tour of the grading and packing facility. Your coach will return you to St Helier at approximately 12:30 - just in time for lunch at the Pomme's Café Bar, where you might even feast on some delicious Jersey Royals!

You can book your place on the tour by calling the Jersey Royal Company on 01534 852444 or emailing william.church@jerseyroyal.co.uk.

The tour is limited to 16 people on a 'first come first served' basis, so it's worth booking as soon as possible.
