Five fantastic weekend events happening in St Helier in 2020

06 Mar 2020

Winter is a quieter time for events in St Helier. But as soon as spring arrives, Jersey's capital parish becomes a hive of activity, with fantastic events to suit all types of traveller.

Here we highlight five of our favourite weekend events happening in St Helier, and explain what you can expect from them if you're lucky enough to be visiting.

The Jersey Boat Show

2nd - 4th May 2020 | St Helier Marina

Jersey has a rich seafaring history, and our unique relationship with the sea and boats is celebrated every year at The Jersey Boat Show.

Step aboard classic vessels and their modern counterparts. Learn from the lifeguards and hear firsthand accounts from the coastguard.

The boat show is a brilliant family-friendly event with plenty to keep you entertained - even if boats aren't really your thing. As well as the nautical emphasis, you can also expect to enjoy numerous food stalls and dance-worthy live music. Entry is free and the boat show has the uncanny knack of being blessed with beautiful weather.

Getting there

St Helier Marina is a 1 minute walk across Liberation Square from the Pomme d'Or Hotel.

Liberation 75th Anniversary Weekend

8th - 10th May 2020 | Various locations

"Our Dear Channel Islands..."
The Pomme d'Or on Liberation Day in 1945.

On the 9th of May 1945, the five-year German occupation of the island ended and Jersey was finally liberated by the allied forces.

This year the island will celebrate our 75th anniversary of that glorious day, and the annual festivities are being taken up a notch.

Events include:

The Liberation Village
A three day celebration with a variety of Liberation-themed activities, talks and experiences taking place throughout St Helier.

Liberation 75 Ceremony
Starts at 10.30am on May 9th in Liberation Square, just across the road from our hotel. Expect speeches, dancing, dramatisations and reflections as we celebrate those who endured the occupation and helped liberate the island.

Liberation 75 Concert
Spend the afternoon of May 9th dancing in People's Park as the Liberation 75 celebrations reach their climax.

Muratti Vase Weekend: Jersey vs Guernsey

15th - 17th May 2020 | Springfield Stadium

The Muratti Vase is the annual football competition played out between Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney, with the final nearly always a Jersey vs Guernsey affair.

In 2020 the senior men's & women's finals - as well as the charity match, disability match and the walking football match - are returning to Springfield Stadium in St Helier for a huge weekend of football.

If you're a sports fan visiting St Helier, we recommend you take the 15 minute walk to Springfield Stadium and experience one of the most fiercely contested derby matches in Britain.

Muratti weekend schedule:

Over 50s charity match - Jersey v Guernsey - 6.30pm

Electric Park Music Festival

11th July 2020 | People's Park

Electric Park is a one day music festival that takes place in the beautiful surroundings of People's Park.

This year's headliners include pop sensation Jessie J and much-loved UK indie outfit Razorlight. More acts are set to be announced shortly. For the full lineup and ticket information you can visit the festival website here.

The Battle of Flowers

13th - 15th August 2020 | Victoria Avenue

The Battle of Flowers is one of the island's most beloved annual events. Each year the island's 12 parishes, along with many local businesses, clubs and organisations, compete to create the most amazing floats decorated in thousands of vibrant flowers.

Their hard work is showcased during two parades along Victoria Avenue. The floats are accompanied by dancers, musicians and entertainers, creating a spectacle that everyone can enjoy.

Victoria Avenue where the festivities begin is just a 10 minute walk from our hotel's front door.
