A big welcome to Matthew Seymour

A big welcome to Matthew Seymour

09 October 2017

We are delighted to announce that Matthew Seymour, grandson of the Chairman Robin Seymour, has recently joined Seymour Hotels as Group Operations Co-ordinator.

Entering the family business

Matthew is the fifth generation of the Seymour family to join the company. The Group was originally established in 1920 by Matthew’s great grandfather, George Frederick Seymour, together with his great great grandfather, George Andrew Seymour.

Marketing and events management

Matthew graduated from the University of Gloucestershire in 2009 with a BA Honours degree in Marketing and Events Management. Since then he has worked for a global sports and music marketing agency, where he co-ordinated various large-scale sponsorship engagements for FTSE 100 and blue chip organisations such as HSBC, NatWest, Tesco and Vodafone.

Returning to his roots

Upon returning to Jersey, he managed the largest surf school in the island and, more recently, worked in fiduciary services - firstly for Pentera Trust Company, and then for Sanne Group, where he worked in their Private Client department as a senior administrator, supporting family offices and Ultra High Net Worth Individuals.

On joining the hotel group, Matthew said “I’m hugely proud of my family’s hospitality heritage and following in the footsteps of the generations before me is something I have always aspired to. I’m looking forward to supporting the dedicated staff and management who currently work for the Group and to developing the business with them for many years to come.”

David Seymour, Managing Director of Seymour Hotels and Matthew’s father, said “The whole family is delighted that Matthew has joined the Group. It is very unusual in this day and age to encounter businesses which have remained under the control of a single family name for five generations. Matthew, along with his sister Stephanie, who has been working in the Company for the last five years, are very much the future. Their enthusiasm, passion and commitment provide us all with great confidence for the continued success of Jersey’s, even possibly the Channel Islands’, longest established hotel group.”
