10 Years of support for Holidays for Heroes

The Merton Hotel celebrates 10 years of support for Holidays for Heroes Jersey

20 June 2018

Holidays for Heroes Jersey are a local charity whose aim is provide free holidays to any member of the armed forces with injuries attributable to their service.

When the charity started operating in 2008 it offered 9 guests the chance to visit and enjoy the beautiful island of Jersey, and due to their great success this grew rapidly to 165 in 2009. They now provide holidays for an average of 300 guests per year thanks to their continued efforts and support from islanders.

The Merton hotel has provided the ideal location to host these guests, who love the friendly staff, range of family facilities and fantastic food found throughout the hotel.

Thanks to the installation of fully accessible wet rooms in the Merton on request of the charity, we’ve been able to accommodate every one of their guests, regardless of their disabilities, at the hotel. This has led to a great sense of comradery amongst the servicemen and women as they can share their Jersey experience, and has allowed the full group to enjoy their well-deserved holiday together.

Michael McInerney, The General Manager of the Merton hotel, along with Group Sales Executive Maggie Mendes were delighted to attend Holidays for Heroes Jersey 10 year anniversary celebrations last week, hosted by Lieutenant-Governor Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton GCB, BSc, FRAeS at Old Government House. They had the opportunity to meet many of the heroes who have benefitted from the charities work.
