Opening day 2019: what's new at the Merton?

Opening day 2019: what's new at the Merton?

29 March 2019

Action stations people! The countdown is on to 2019's opening day on Friday the 5th of April, and we're busy straightening the bed sheets before we welcome families back to the Merton!

Since we said goodbye to our final guests of 2018, a lot's been happening behind the scenes, so we thought we'd take a minute to run you through some of the welcome additions to the Merton in 2019.

New faces

Just last week we said goodbye to our longstanding General Manager, Michael McInerney, and welcomed his successor Luis de Oliveira into the Merton team. Luis came to us from our sister hotel the Pomme d'Or and has spent the last 17 years as part of the Seymour Hotels family.

Luis is excited to welcome the first guests of the year to The Merton next week, saying:

"I can't wait to open those doors and see families having fun and making memories with all the great facilities we have."

The seasonal nature of the Merton means we also welcome a new team of kitchen, housekeeping and entertainment talent each year. This year's newest team members have been busy getting up to speed with the hotel's high standards, and they can't wait to put it all into practice on Friday.

Sprucing up The Belvedere

The Merton's home of buffet breakfasts and all you can eat feasts has received some TLC with a brand new refurbishment. A new colour scheme and upgraded soft furnishings has breathed new life into our trusted eatery - The Belvedere is ready to serve!

New nightly entertainment

A holiday to Jersey wouldn't be complete without letting your hair down in The Star Room. This year we're welcoming a huge range of acts, with many guest favourites and some new acts including:

Cool Britannia - The best of British music, celebrated in an energetic song and dance show.

Georgi Mottram - Local soprano singing sensation does her thing.

Wish Upon a Star - Disney classics done right.

Cordelectra - Award winning electric string trio.

A Vision of Mercury - Joseph Lee Jackson performs Queen classics as Freddie Mercury.
