November's Gin of the Month - Williams GB Gin

10 Nov 2017

In recent times British farmers have had to look at new ways to sustain and grow their businesses. For one particular farmer, William Chase, the story from humble potato supplier to one of the UK’s leading premium drink producers is inspirational for the agricultural industry - and ‘ginspirational’ for us! Introducing November's Gin of the Month - Williams Chase GB Extra Dry Gin.

From supermarket stocker to premium distiller

Struggling to make ends meet on the family farm, Tyrrells Court in Herefordshire, William focused on producing the traditional British staple - the potato. He traded with supermarkets to make a living, finding that rewards for his hard work were minimal compared with the pressures involved in meeting the supply demands and fighting off the requests to lower rates.

One day when a batch of spuds was rejected, he decided to take some to a crisp manufacturer, who were amazed by the quality. The penny soon dropped for William, as he realised his high quality potatoes could be made into delicious goods on this own farm.

Tyrrells crisps were born, and as the premium chips took off, William was soon looking for the next big idea. Whilst promoting the Tyrrells brand abroad, he encountered potato vodka for the first time and was overwhelmed by how good it tasted. Discovering that gin could also be made from the vodka, William realised his new ambition - to create Britain’s first real single-estate gin.

Zesty citrus to rich spices

Launched in 2008, Williams GB Extra Dry combines the potato based Chase Vodka with juniper, and is infused with wild botanicals.

Zesty citrus along with the warming aromas of nutmeg, ginger and cinnamon draw your nose into the gin before the combination of juniper, dark chocolate, lemon and deeply rich spices tingle the palette. There is a hearty full bodied flavour with a robust dry finish - a great choice for a winter G&T with plenty of ice, garnished with fresh ginger and a thick lemon wedge.

Come and try William's Gin

With the cold nights drawing in, Greenhills is a perfect retreat to warm up and savour an evening tipple in front of our open fire. If you're dining in our restaurant, be sure to enjoy an aperitif at the bar where our staff will be delighted to make the William's G&T just the way you like it!

Cheers!
