Be rewarded this spring by cycling up the hill!

29 Mar 2018

British Summer Time has finally arrived with longer evenings and warmer days not far behind. It's a great time of year to explore Jersey and one of the best ways to do so, is by bike.

The island's interweaving lanes provide picturesque escapism for cyclists, with many designated biking routes offering stunning vantage points to take in beautiful seascapes, woodlands and rolling fields.

A new rural route

Early this year a new path for both walkers and cyclists opened in St Peter's Valley, joining the popular cycling route along the Bay of St Aubin to the north-western parishes of St Mary and St Ouen. The path now makes the journey from the main town of St Helier safer and has been designed to be in keeping with the rural setting.

On their way up the valley, two-wheeled adventurers will discover Jersey's milling history with the Tesson Mill and Le Moulin de Quetivel situated along the path. Both of the mills are looked after by the National Trust for Jersey, with the latter being the only working mill left in the island. If you're visiting in the summer months, when the mill opens its doors to the public, then it's worth checking opening times before setting off on your ride.

As you continue further into the valley, the more beautiful and tranquil the ride becomes. A guiding stream leads you from the open meadow towards the woodland canopy, accompanied by a soundtrack of native wildlife cheeping and squawking all around.

Top of the hill

Just off the path, high up the valley side, lies Greenhills Country House Hotel, a perfect pitstop for an afternoon or early evening break from the saddle. No hard work should go unrewarded, and with our selection of delicious light bites or afternoon tea, your indulgence will taste sweeter and well earned.

For a relaxed dining experience, the table d'hôte or à la Carte menus offer an opportunity to unwind over a long lunch enjoyed while soaking in the warm spring sunshine on the terrace or within the cosy comfort of our restaurant.

To add a little sweetener to those venturing by pedal power to Greenhills, until the 31st of May we will reward you at the top of the hill with 10% off your bill, enabling you to savour your feast guilt free. Now, there's a great reason to get on your bike!
