Durrell Break

World famous author and naturalist Gerald Durrell founded the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust out of a desire to show that things could be done better. His mission was to save species from extinction, and the headquarters in Jersey has evolved into a site that showcases the work that Gerry’s team of conservationists tirelessly conduct to help endangered species.

Seymour Hotels were one of the first organisations in Jersey to become a sponsor of Gerry Durrell’s work. Now we are pleased to be able to offer you the opportunity to visit Durrell and make a behind the scenes tour that will give you a unique insight into the work of this extraordinary organisation.

Your half-day tour provides the opportunity to visit areas out of bounds to the general public, speak to different members of the Durrell team and to experience close contact with one of the many endangered species, for example by assisting with a daily feed. A detailed itinerary will be arranged in advance of your visit and at the end of your day you will receive an adoption gift box – enabling you to adopt one of Durrell’s Orangutans for a year.

You can also upgrade your package to become a ’Keeper for the Day’ which provides a full day assisting the keepers in cleaning enclosures, feeding animals and other parts of the daily routine. This is a real hands-on day; be prepared to finish filthy, tired but elated by the experience!

Please note that bookings for this break are for a minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 people and need to be made at least 4 weeks prior to your arrival date. The tour programme is subject to change – however Durrell will do their utmost to provide a suitable alternative. The minimum age is 10 years (18 years for the ’Keeper for the Day’ experience).
